how to tell bios version

we have thinkpad 385xd..second hand..cheap..want to upgrade the hard drive
to about 6-10 gig
..and was told a bios upgrade is also required..do not have manuals for
this laptop..and therefore
we dont know how to check for bios version..or to upgrade..this is a first
ever laptop..can anyone
point us in the right direction?
