This is true for camera lenses as well, but there are a variety of reasons
photo pros now prefer microfiber,
including better cleaning ability (you can get grease off a surface with a
microfiber cloth and no solvents whatever)
and unsurpassed softness. These cloths are so inexpensive and ubiquitous
nowadays that there's little
reason *not* to use them.
