Hello List,
I am working on my dad's 600E (2645-4AU). I have the CD set as the first
boot drive in CMOS. I am using the correct bootable CD for the system. It
loads on startup and asks me to pick a language, then fails with this error:
can not open file d:\lang\xxtrans.bin
where 'xx' is two weird characters, an accented 'e' and a delta (triangle)
symbol. After this I get a blue screen and there is no HD or CD activity any
more.
I am on the IBM site for this model type right now. According to the device
driver matrix, no bootable floppy is required.
I do see that the installation instructions say that the recovery CD
supports IBM 20x CDR's. I believe this unit is a 24x. Could that be causing
the problem?
Please email me directly with any replies and CC: the list as I receive via
Digest mode.
I'd hate to FDISK this pup and do a bare drive install of Win98 but I just
did it for my 600 and it was pretty easy, so that is my fallback.
TIA, kj
