These things are never easy...

After a week of calls, I was able to bring my T20 in locally for
examination, as requested by IBM.

The tech agreed this was most likely caused by repeated stress on that
point from opening and closing the lid. He also noted that my laptop is in
excellent condition, no signs of abuse. He also thinks my hinges may be on
the tight side, contributing to the problem. They are not adjustable he
says.

Happy with this, I left him to call IBM to give his opinion.

Later he calls me back, says that IBM considers this to be user abuse and
will not do warranty repair?!? Since they have no record of similar
failure on file, it must be my fault. Huh? What was the point? They wanted
someone in the field to give their opinion, then they ignore it.

I was issued a new case number, 17184033.

At IBM's request I gave the tech a copy of Randal's email, describing the
same failure.

On hold with IBM now...
