I'd be willing to drop all kinds of other stuff! Once one has alien file
format and pcmcia support, one can
launch a loopback system on an external/pcmcia hard drive, get as fat a
distribution as one wants, and use
that to manage backups (and other low-level operations) on laptops. I used
to do this using a FAT16
partition on the main HD, but having
the whole backup system on external devices is of course much safer and
cleaner.
Speaking of compression, that's some disclaimer in your .sig!
