I have lurked on this list for some time and I have learned a great deal
from those who post here. I hope someone here can help me with a Windows
2000 problem.
I have an IBM Thinkpad A21p with Windows 2000. I am unable to install
certain new software programs. I noticed this most recently when I was
attempting to install Norton Systemworks but the problem is not limited to
this program. After uninstalling the prior version of Norton systemworks,
rebooting my computer, logging on with administrator privileges, putting in
the CD, agreeing to the licensing agreement and answering a few questions,
the installation begins. With in a few seconds, I get the following error
message:
Error 1500. Another installation is in progress. You must complete that
installation before continuing this one.
To my knowledge, there is no other installation running. I have just
booted the system, I have closed running programs in the system tray, I
have opened task manager and checked to be sure that no other applications
are running, and checked the processes panel to insure that no process with
the letters msi was running. I have attempted the installation several
times closing more processes and closing various services using
administrative tools but the error continues to occur.
My research on the internet suggested that there could be a problem with
Microsoft Installer. I went to the Microsoft web site and downloaded
msicuu.exe, a program that the Microsoft web site indicated would address
certain problems with Microsoft installer. When I attempted to install the
utility I got an error message: "Error 1500: Another installation is in
progress" with the rest of the message I gave above.
Does anyone have any good ideas for how to solve this problem?
