If you're looking for something in Win2K comparable to the safe mode command
prompt (i.e. booting into DOS), press F8 when you see the bars going across
the bottom of the screen in text mode as Win2K boots. This will bring up a
boot menu that you can leave the machine in. It's running in real mode at
that point, so it ought to behave just like a DOS prompt.

I would guess that the BIOS setup screen is equivalent for the purpose of
running the battery down. That's what I've used myself.
