I have the SGI 1600SW display. It is 1600x1024 pixels, the same pixel
dimensions as the Apple Cinema Display although the screen is physically
smaller. I recently saw refurb units on sale at the SGI web site for
around $700.
I have not been able to get the 1600SW to work with the DVI port on the
port replicator attached to my A21p. I have tried several port
replicators. The behavior I get is no video image or signal (LED doesn't
turn green) to the SGI input adapter box. I assume the probably is related
to the widescreen aspect ratio of the SGI display. I am stuck with using
the analog VGA port at 1280x1024, which works fine and the picture is
crisp. Using the Powerstrip utility (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm),
I can probably coax the video card to support full 1600x1024 but I haven't
had the time to experiment with it.
It would be helpful if someone can detail successful usage of the DVI port
on an A21p with the port replicator with any DVI display. For instance, I
don't know when that port is supposed to be activated -- should be it
useable at BIOS boot time or only after Win2K/WinXP and video drivers are
loaded? I assume access to the DVI display is via the FN-F7 key combo.
