Actually, I was mistaken. I just tried it in a virtual machine, and they
don't give you any option to remove the uninstall information. I was sure
they used to do this--it seems pretty dumb not to have it.

There's even an easier way. Now that you've deleted the uninstall directory,
you can select "Windows 2000 Service Pack 2" and click Change/Remove. It
will tell you that there was an error and ask if you want to remove the
entry from the list.

You can also remove things from the list manually by using RegEdit. The
uninstall information is in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

and each entry in the list is a subkey under that.

There may also be per-user uninstall information in:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall

(but the service pack will be in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE key).
