[TP i1720] Problem with trackpoint right button

I have this annoying problem on my Thinkpad: suddenly the left button of the
trackpoint is behaving like another right button (the right button still
works OK), so I don't have a left button anymore. I have the same problems
both with Windows 98 and with Linux. Also, I tried an external mouse and it
works correctly. I suspect it's a hardware problem. How can I find out and
fix it? Thanks.
