Several years ago, I was on a job traveling 2-3 weeks each month for about
18 months. I got sick with pneumonia on one trip and packed everything
except the notebook itself (2 extra HDDs, AC adapter, spare battery,
floppies, docs, phone cable - all those things we all carry around) in my
luggage. I then checked it because I was too sick to lug it through the
airport to change planes.
That was the one and only time that my luggage got lost. Fortunately, it
did turn up several days later with all its contents intact, but I've never
pushed my luck again. Like Donald, my bag may get checked but not my
notebook. I'll just go to carrying a *really* big purse like my grandmother's!
