I accidentaly discovered an IDE to Compact Flash adapter that may be what
you are looking for.

from the site:

Easy way to replace hard disk drives with solid state storage in existing
systems.

Transparent to the operating system, does not require any drivers - looks
just like a (small) IDE hard disk drive. Same mounting hole locations as
bottom holes of hard disk drive. Board size 2x4".

Apearantly it lets you replace a hard drive with a Compact Flash and the
only limit is the Compact Flash budget that you set for yourself:) The
board itself is only U$20.
