I have a 240x, which is supplied with a recovery CD (restores to factory
installation) and a floppy to startup and use the CD.
The floppy is intended for use with one of IBM's recommended CD drives, but
I have the Freecom Traveller II (CDRW). This can be used with different
cables through different ports, and I have both the USB cable and the PCMIA
cable.
But I've not yet been able to work out how to change the floppy so as to
use the CD drive when starting from floppy (no problems under normal use,
it's only in the case of a complete restore, which hopefully I'll never
need).
I can *almost* get the floppy to work with the PCMIA cable. I'm pretty sure
I have all the relevant files on my changed floppy. But I don't seem to
have the syntax quite right in the config.sys and autoexect.bat. Nearly
right isn't good enoug, so far the floppy goes partway and then complains.
Does anyone know exactly what is needed to get it to work? Freecom weren't
very helpful \, there's some indication in their manual but not enough, and
they haven't yet done more than acknowledge my query.
Somebody suggested that I might be able to get the CD to work through the
USB port using a dirver usb_cd.sys. But that was actually designed for a
different computer, and I just got the message "NTDRV not found" (or some
such).
