Thanks to all those who, on list and off, have responded to my query.
I have been given some useful information. Among other things, it is clear
that IBM's supplied recovery diskette has an autoexec.bat file which is
unnecessarily complicated. This is partly (entirely?) because it is
designed to work with a choice of three CD drives, and has to give the user
the option of which drive is being used.
I still have some specific questions. I understand the line referring to
MSCDEX.EXE. The supplied autoexec.bat has a previous line referring to
DYNALOAD. Does anyone know why this is needed? It may be another place
relating to the option of choosing which drive one is using, and not needed
for a single drive.
The other point is that the info provided with my CD drive refers to a
couple of parameters needed, the base address of the PCMIA card and its I/O
address. How can I find these out? It may well be that this is all the
further information I need to get things working.
