i bought a thinkpad 560e some weeks ago to run
sequenced autio from the line-out. i have discovered a
nasty, persistent hum/squeal which is worse when the
hard drive isn't spinning. moving the mouse also
interferes with the audio, creating a massive dragging
"c-r-r-r-unnch". the interference is not affected by
the volume control, and turning the audio right up
does not really disguise the noise. it is most obvious
when run through an amp so i suspect the sound card is
simply not able to cope with that much aplification.
this interference has rendered the thinkpad useless
for me - it is not a problem i ever encountered with
my apple powerbook.

can anyone suggest a quick fix for this? i have tried
re-sizing the display, turning down the colours and
checking for conflicts. fiddling with hardware
acceleration does nothing to help.

alternatively, does anyone in the UK want a 560e with
80mb ram?

claire
