If the display has two slide controls on the right, it's DSTN. A single slide
means it's TFT.
800x600 at 256 colors is the limit for the DSTN, TFT will go to 16BIT.

With that many registry errors I would consider an OS reload to be a primary and
obligatory step. How do you know Norton got everything? Start from scratch and
you'll _know_ everything is setup correctly.
