It IS called for. People are complaining that IBM won't replace a defective
battery after one year. That's their warranty, and the same or better than
ANYONE ELSE in the laptop industry. So live with it. A battery is a
consumable, when it wears out, buy a new one. That's the deal.
And yes, IBM DOES replace defective recalled batterys. I have had several
replaced for 600 series machines.

info, but it's worth repeating that my issue with IBM's handling of this
situation is that various sources on this list have indicated that IBM has
acknowledged that the model of battery used in the 770ED is known to been
often defective, and some people have indicated that their batteries were
replaced due to this known defect. I repeat: I know and agree that 1 year
warranty = it will work for 1 year. I think the IBM warranties that came
with the machine were fair. In my case, I hadn't actually put a full year
into the battery yet (my fault, not IBM's, that the machine sat in storage
for a while), and others indicated that IBM acknowledged a problem with this
battery. But, IBM wasn't willing to replace my battery.

the possibly defective line of batteries, I think they still could've done a
bit better, that's all. Call me old-fashioned, but I sometimes hope for
small considerations when I pay $4500 for something.

battery fully by going into the configuration screen at startup. This
didn't work for me. The machine shut down as soon as the battery thought it
was at 0%. Did I miss something? I'll have to continue my trick of running
Apache/MySQL, which interferes with Win95 suspending.
