I've never used a TP 365X, but I've used apmd under Redhat 5.0 - 7.2 on
various Toshibas from 1996 to 2001 and on a Thinkpad X20 and X21 for the
last 5 months and a Thinkpad A21p for the past few weeks. The battery
charge always changed by 1% except for the following.
On some Toshibas, the battery would stay at 100% for a while, then drop
to 95%, then drop in 1% increments. When charging, it would increase in
1% increments, then stay at 95% for a while, then jump to 100%.
The newer thinkpads appear to run on AC power without charging if the
charge is between 95% and 100%. If the thinkpad starts charging at less
than 95%, it continues to charge until it reaches 100%.
I really like the policy of turning charging off when the battery is
full. When I leave the computer, I suspend Linux and leave the AC
connected. The battery retains its charge as with hibernate without
the delay of returning from hibernate.
I think that the battery or the computer is responsible for reporting
large increments in charge level, not apmd.
