"Optimal" Battery Charging Technique?

All~

Does it matter, when you're charging the battery, whether or not:

1) the battery pack is hot/warm/cool/cold?
2) the AC adapter is hot/warm/cool/cold?
3) the battery is charged with the machine turned on, or off?

I always charge cold batteries using cold AC adapters with the system off,
usually overnight. And I never use the battery before it's done fully
charging.

Just wondering if this is a waste of time & effort.
