If everything you are doing fits in 256Mb with no virtual memory required,
then more memory won't help. If your working set is bigger than 256Mb and
there is a lot of paging going on because of that, then more memory will
make it faster.
Just a few examples...
Editing large photos, and loading lots of them in memory at once--for
example, making a 360 degree panorama in Panorama Factory using 45 bit
pixels.
Big databases.
Using VMware or Connectix Virtual PC to run virtual machines.
Running lots and lots of applications at once and switching among them
frequently.
