You either need a new drive shell, or you need to perform some minor surgery
on your existing drive or the shell.
The problem is that when the 755 series was built, the configuration for the
pins that select MASTER/SLAVE was the opposite of the industry standard set
in 1997. Hence, the new 2.1GB drive in the old shell is being set as a SLAVE
by default.
You can get a new style shell from Bill at www.thinkpads.com, or you could
bend the drive selection pins over on the drive itself, OR, you could either
snip the last four wires on the internal cable in the shell or remove the
last four pin sockets with a soldering iron.
