Hi Kevin,

While it sounds easy to those of us who at one point or another in the
past, screwed up our courage and not our machines, I do remember that it
was the first few times - a scary prospect.

It will cost you nothing (but time) to call...
1 (800) 565-3344 <-- IBM Support Line
There are several EZ-Serve depots and retail IBM stores in the greater
Vancouver area. The people at the support line could probably help you
find out who is close by.

You will probably pay something for this if you go the IBM authorized
depot route, but in your position, I would at least try to get a couple
of informal quotes before taking the plunge myself.

While this message will probably spark an uproar about people's
experiences with EZ Serve - you asked for a place to start looking. So
it's a start. You're not looking for a debate about getting something
done under warranty - so you may have better luck than some who have had
to debate warranty status and warranty eligibility.

I don't have the link handy, but I think it's in the Mini-FAQ. You can
get the hardware manual for the machine on ibm's site if you know the
real model number (look on the bottom of the machine).

Best of luck.

Jim

Anyone have any suggestions of a great place to have a new hard drive
and ram installed into my old Thinkpad 380D? I don't want to attempt it
myself for fear of screwing up and damaging the TP, hard drive, or RAM
module. Would love an economical solution also......finances limited.
Many thanks!
