On a 570E :
RH 6.0 with no X Window System - loverly
RH 7.1 with X - loverly
RH 7.1 without X - loverly
RH 7.2 any attempt - Kernel panic no luck with three gurus solutions
Suse 7.1 with X - loverly
Suse 7.1 minimum install - got to LI and refused to get any further with
the same three peoples solutions
BUT : with all X displays using KDE 2.x.x (on all distros) it hangs (I
did mention this sometime ago with only one response) after install. The
display comes up fine but it can stop after 10mins, 30mins, 2 hours
anything. I thought it might be a heat related issue (CDROMs are VERY
hot after a few mins turning). But this even happened without the
Ultrabase attached. Besides never any probs with W2K and any CDROMs
(although they are still VERY hot after a while).
I reckon the best and easiest is to slap your hard drive into another
laptop with a CDROM and install from there.

Subject: Re: [TP560e] More on Linux...
For what its worth:
I don't know anything about a 560 but I just went through this on two
380XDs.
Loaded Mandrake 8.1 and even though I've had good luck with earlier
versions,
8.1 ran like a ruptured turtle!.
It probably loaded and started some service that had a problem.
I did not stop to figure out why, but loaded Redhat 7.2 over it.
RH runs great!! and it was a real nobrainer to install.
Billy and Steve should really be worried about this.
BTW, the bios limit on these machines is 8.2 G and I have no trouble
seeing and
using a 12G HD.
Triple booting to W98, W2K and RH.
BTW2 If you have a CD rom drive, both distros will boot from it.
Installing from 10 floppies is painfull.
Cheers, Bert
