I think the problem is probably with card services not
detecting the card properly and not loading the
appropriate driver. I've just installed the same card
on my Toshiba Libretto no problems and the main
difference was that the windoze picked up on the new
hardware as soon as it was inserted.

Incidentally I managed to get a 3c509 in my dock1
working after about the 10th attempt, but only with
the legacy drivers, not the PnP ones.

Perhaps I need to make sure that the IBM card services
drivers are up-to-date. I'm sure the BIOS is the
latest
version.
