that "i" series machine is out of IBM warranty.. so they have no further
obligation other than to supply parts for a period of time..

it is pretty obsolete at this point in time..
once it was a fairly decent value for the $$..

IMO i would waste no more time on it, and take the $$ in lieu (if possible)
of repair..
or sell it on ebay (where a lot of people dump such lemons)..

then buy a used T or A series with the balance of the three year IBM
warranty..
for instance, my A21p is now worth little more than $1500..
and my T20 will sell for about $1000..
both of these machines are far better than the old i series..
smaller and lighter..
