I did mean to mention that, and go with NiCads, although I've been
meaning to try some LiIon ones myself for fun. Really the iron is on
such a short time it's unlikely to heat it up enough to go off, but if
it did you'd certainly want a couple sheets of plexi between you and it
for a blast shield. I want to set a couple off sometime just to see how
bad they are..
Even when I forget that warning, there still isn't much risk that
someone will make it to that point. I've yet to find a place where you
can get LiIon cells for a price low enough to be worth while repairing
one vs. the prebuilt pack. And most places won't sell the cells to
individuals anyway due to liability concerns, so it'd surely be
difficult to even find the right cells to repair a pack.
