I bought a combo drive, DVD/CDRW, on eBay, for just under $200, and a
defective CDR drive for $10. Then I was able (with the help of a bench
grinder and a file) to fit the combo drive into an A21P, and everything
works correctly.

This is easy to do, and a better buy, since it also plays DVD movies, etc.
see http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1308466374 for a
typical unit
