The ribbon cable connector on the back of the screen
tends to come loose on that model since it's only held
in place by some tape.
It's easy to remove the cover and push the connector
back into place then tape it back securely once you
figure out how to remove the cover. The IBM manual
shows how to remove the inside of the frame. Basically
you have to remove the black dots and take the screws
out, then the inside of the frame comes out from
around the display by grasping it at the inside edge
and twisting out a little at a time all around the
inside until the whole thing comes loose. Then pry out
the LCD display and replace the connector. Pop the
frame back in and replace the screws and cover them
with the black dots.
