I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? I managed to install a 20Gb
Travelstar drive on my TP560z - finally! A friend used partition magic to
sort it out and I now have Windows 98 installed on a 5Gb partition, the
remaining 15Gb to be used for audio and other files.
The gent who helped me out installed the drive using Dynamic Drive Overlay v
9.51 as we couldn't get the TP to recognise all 20Gb (ealier problem well
documented).
The problem now is that the CD rom isn't recognised and when I put in the
PCMIA card, there's no autodection of a plug and play device. When I do a
manual search for 'add remove hardware' it's still not detected. The slots
themselves are there on the Device Manager list as Texas Instruments PCI-1250
CardBus Controller. The PCMIA cards ARE autodetected using my HD in another
TP (a later model) which is of course using my Windows 98 to boot from. So,
the cards themselves are OK and the drivers for the other TP were installed
from my HD where they do reside. (We copied them from a CD rom of Thinkpad
drivers I got with the TP when I bought it - second hand...)
The next thing is that when I run a BIOS test the PCMIA slots come up as 'OK'.
They also worked before when I was using my old (now defunkt) HD which had
Windows 2000 professional installed (thanks to previous owner).
I have SystemSoft's CardWords for Win95 Version 5.32.25 as I couldn't find
one for Windows 98. It still comes up with the 'empty slot' message even
though both my CDrom card and modem card are firmly lodged in the slots.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, did they manage to solve it? Clearly
I can't access my CD rom nor modem which makes the whole thing very very
depressing considering I've now spent in total over £500 sterling on it.
Please tell me I don't have to throw the whole thing out of the window - it's
open now and I'm severely tempted...
At my wits end,
Karina (midiwife)
