I wonder if bootability depends on the particular card/adapter (did you get
a flash+PC card adapter, or a full card?)
Have you looked at the manufacturer's web page?

One possible solution is a boot manager like http://www.xosl.org/ or
http://btmgr.sourceforge.net/ -
you'd actually boot from the HD, but then the manager would tell the system
to boot from the
partition on the PC Card
