Hmmm... well, it depends on why you want to crack the password. If you
merely want a working HDD, then a low level format may work. If,
however, you want to rescue the data, then you need the password.

Perhaps Rob's answer was a bit harsh (although accurate). Not everyone
who has a locked HDD is a thief (although I'm sure a lot of them are),
people do make mistakes occassionally, such as purchasing equipment
without asking all the right questions.
