After many weeks of carefully plotting out her purchase requirements for an X23, my wife jumped instead
at a good price for an T23. The machine arrived today, and we have a couple of quick questions (more will likely come later):
(1) The rear ports (eg lpt, serial, etc) are uncovered. Every TP we've owned in the past has had some kind of
cover for these, either in the form of a rubber plug or a swinging door. Was this an oversight on the packer's part,
does this model really have no cover here?
(2) She bought the machine with W2K preinstalled; it came without any recovery/preload CD (or the usual
IBM 'disk factory'). The manual says that the preload is in a hidden partition somewhere on the HD, and can be
recreated from the BIOS. Fair enough if true, but this isn't much protection against a bad drive. Is it possible to access
this preload and image it to a CD in such a way as to create a useful emergency backup? Even better, is there a preload
CD available bootable into W2K (eg, like one that came with my W2K Micron desktop)? This kind of CD is useful
when repairing damaged systems in W2K.
BTW, so far I am favorably impressed with the screen's brightness, a bit disappointed with its color correctness
(seems washed out, even with brightness low and contrast up), and puzzled at the keyboard (which feels like an
even shorter throw than our 560 series machines).
Thanks all for your help.
