No USB 2.0 on Thinkpads?

I'm new to the USB arena, but my understanding is that USB 1.1 is pretty darned slow, and USB 2.0 is quite fast. Is USB 2.0 so new that nobody supports it yet? I've certainly found a big supply of USB 2.0 peripherals in my searches.

I ask, because I noticed that none of the Thinkpads (even the souped-up A31p) has 2.0. What's the story?
