You can use a USB 2.0 CardBus card
Not sure if it is a fast as a built in port, but 2.0 is VERY fast.

Subject: No USB 2.0 on Thinkpads?

supports it yet? I've certainly found a big supply of USB 2.0 peripherals
in my searches.
