Hello,

Yeah I thought the extended partition had the same
limit as the Master PC boot sector so that maximum
would be 3 primaries and 1 extended with 4 logical
partitions. This is not the case.

Another tip I remember (I hope I got this correct)
is that dos/windows can have problems if the last
logical partition in the extended partition is not
formatted FAT. I ended up putting my linux and
OS/2 partitions in the "middle" and ended the logical
partitions with a couple of 2 GB FAT drives.

I wonder if we will ever see 65 GB TravelStar drives?

The partition table in the master PC boot sector has space
for only 4 partitions. One of these can be an Extended
partition, which in turn can hold any number of logical
drives inside it. In the PC world, the 4-partition
limit of the Master Boot Record is inviolate.

But you are free to define as many logical drives within an
Extended partition as you please. They are daisy-chained
and thus do not take up an entry in the MBR, as do Primary
(bootable) and Extended (container) partitions.

(Some OSes even permit booting from an Extended partition,
so a Primary partition is not a hard requirement.)
