I have a 380ED that came preconfigured w/ the 2.1 GB hard drive. All of the
official documentation I found said that an 8 GB drive was the max - but my
personal experience is completly different.

I purchased a 20 GB IBM drive for $49 here:

http://www.accessmicro.com/productinfo.php3?ProductId=HDIBDJSA-220

The drive fit perfectly into the system - no additional hardware or caddey
was requred. I used IBM's feature tool to upgrade my bios to accept the
larger hd:

http://www.storage.ibm.com/hdd/support/download.htm

I created a 2.5 GB NTFS basic partition for XP Pro and the rest I
partitioned as NTFS basic using the administrative disk management tools in
windows. XP recognizes the full 20 GB. I did not need to use any
additional bios overlays - just the feature tool from IBM to get my stystem
up and running. The documentation and software were straight forward and
easy to use.

As far as I'm aware FAT32 and NT 5 Basic only allow 4 primary partitions.
However you can create additional logical partitions on one of the primary
partitions. The max hd size under FAT32 is 32 GB. I've used system
commander in the past, but I'm no expert.

NTFS 5 under WIN2K (and I'm assuming XP) will allow larger drives - up to 2
terabytes. I'm not aware that you can partition a drive that has been
changed to dynamic storage. Also, dynamic storage is not supported on
laptops.

My laptop only has 166mhz P1, which is not supposed to support XP. I've
found that XP runs faster than WIN2K on the same laptop.

Hope this helps. Am by far an expert and would appreciate any feedback on
incorrect/incomplete information (it's the only way that I'm going to
learn).
