Death!

Well, I got to L.A., plugged in the TP 600, it showed an
unfamiliar number on the IBM startup screen, and promptly
conked out, deader than a doornail. Is this because the
battery is dead? Ie, it won't even run off the wall outlet
if the battery is dead? If so, I can't wait for Ebay. I
can call Jeddy's IBM Parts and pay for fast shipping, but
does anyone know of an alternative? (Their price looks as
good as any other, so it may be fine.) The point being,
time is of the essence.
