It's obviously best to have it with you when you call, but as long as
you have the model #, serial #, and can fully describe the problem and
troubleshooting steps then you should be OK to call without the unit.
They may come up with some tests that they want you to do, in which case
you'll need to get the machine, but at least they should be able to tell
you if it is worth pursuing as a warrantable repair.
