The only distribution I have used extensively is Red Hat. I installed
6.0 with much pain on my 770ED; 6.1 will less pain on my 770ED; 7.1
with no pain on my A21p; and 7.2 with no pain on my 770ED.
I mostly do software development in the Linux environment, so far, so
do not recall whether sound worked with any of these configurations or
how well (for example).
One of the things on my list for after I finish my tax return is to
install 7.2 onto the A21p. Of course, since RH is in Beta on the next
release, maybe I should just wait until a few weeks after that comes
out, and install it onto the A21p.
On a new HP desktop system at work, we just installed 7.2. So far, the
only glitch was buying a 160G HD that the stock kernel sees only 128G
of. We are not yet in danger of running out of space, so are willing
to wait for a Red Hat release or patch that addresses the problem.
I've heard that the current Beta will do so. But, since this is a
production system, I can't reasonably load the Beta kernel onto it.
Ron.
