Have you considered cleaning the contacts with one of these
glass-fibre brushes available from a good stationary shop, or possibly
a place like Radio Shack? Usually works for me...
Of course it's pretty difficult to actually _reach_ the contacts in
the 701, unless you own a size-1 Torx screwdriver, but I guess it is
possible...
