Hello,
Also check to see if he also has a desktop and user information.
Location depends on the OS and configuration. Check to see if there
is a subdirectory named with his login name under the windows directory.
It may not be a bad idea to search the registry as well or use
regclean after you delete his directories.
That is one thing I noticed early in my windows journey.
NT systems tended to require a system administrator to create a account
on a machine but I could just log in with any user name (or no user name)
on a Win9x machine. But then Win9x is meant for home and simple business
systems where the emphasis is to reduce support problems than to increase
security.
With the Win2K on my T600e it is only slightly more annoying to require
login as administrator to install software. You have to do the same for
linux anyway so I do not loosen the security setting. I heard of some
companies where the IT department have the security policies set so high
it starts to overly restrict what can be done on the computer.
Being able to set and tailor the security policies was one of the
considerations in going for Win2k instead of W98se as an upgrade for
my 600e laptop. It seems the W9x stuff does not have any security.
Did Microsoft gut security policies in the XP Home edition as well?
