Well, let me sum up how I got to where I am, don't know whether or not you
really care, but here goes. A comp store had 760C that they had gotten as
payment for a desktop repair. The manager sold it to me on the side as I'm
a student in high school and felt sorry for me (painted my grandparents
house to raise the cash). It included everything, a Dock I, and a perfectly
WORKING Lion battery. How a battery that old still works is beyond me, it
must not have been used much. So anyway, I was using it in school and when
they made the announcement about 9/11 I dropped it on my desk. I'm still
kicking myself over that. In short, the laptop itself still worked fine,
but the case was damaged so bad that it couldn't be easily moved. My
parents felt bad, and dad found this 760XL for $130 ending in 1 minute, so
impluse buy time. The Dock I didn't work too well with my 760XL, kinda the
opposite problem. New laptop old dock. So I cruised ebay for a while and
found the selectadockIII, I didn't realize that it wasn't exactly too native
to the 760xl at the time. I found a selectabaseI for it, and had my system.
As for your question, yes, I've managed to get the dock fully functional.
First, let me say that I have Thinkpad Configuration 1.19, not sure what
version you need. In the configuration under docking station at least 1 IRQ
must be assigned as an IRQ holder for PCI steering. This enables all the
PCI devices in the docking station. The USB ports, SCSI (I believe), and
whatnot. I've even managed to get a 1.6GB hard drive (destkop) to work in
it. Under the IDE device tab, you must enable it. For that you NEED IRQ 15
to be free. That's the only IRQ that the docking station IRQ can use. I
can't get the game/MIDI port to work though. It is detected and assigned
resources, shows up fine in device manager. But when I add a joystick it
always comes up as dissconnected. Perhaps someone else has had more luck
with that.
Tom

PS-None of the 760 series had USB ports.
My Current Specs:
760XL:9547-U9C
PI 166MMX
104 MB RAM
2.1 GB Hard Drive
20X Cdrom
98SE

Hi Tom,
Thats a great config. U have. Actually its quite rare.
I have a 760ED on a selectadock III until recently there was only ONE other
guy I knew, who had a 760EL on a selectadock III.
I had contacted him to find how he got his dock USB ports 2 work, although
the laptop doesn't have USB ports.
Have U tried the USB on U'r dock? I assume U'r 760XL also doesn't have USB
ports of its own.
Don't mean to pester U. Just thought we should keep in touch (since we R
such a rare breed, running Pentium I on selectadock III)
Reply at leisure. Thanks --- Hemant
