probably is kaput..
BUT..
try pulling the HDD and extra memory..
(leave the original memory, then swap it for any upgrade memory)
also, reseating the memory might not hurt..

see if it boots then..
to a floppy or just into the bios setup..
hit the F1 key when you see that option on the display..

  Hope somebody can shed some light on this;

  I have a thinkpad A21m(2628-E1U) and it won't switch on anymore. The only thing that happens when I plug in the power supply is that the battery indicator flashes, and from that point you are able to hear an electrical sound as well(everytime the indicator flashes).

  If you try to switch it on, the thinkpad just starts with the routine for about half a second(can hear trying to access floppy) but then goes back to that flickering/sound again.

  Anybody can help?
