You might look on eBay. Now when you say the top half of the case, are
you referring to the display bezel, or the keyboard assembly (which includes
the speakers, 600E sticker, etc.?

Nope. External won't work either - you need one specifically for the 600.
I've been told parts for the 570 will work, however.

You might be able to get by with a 600, so long as it has a 13.3" TFT. Supposedly,
IBM has several different FRU's for displays, which leads me to believe that
like with the hard drives they bundled with the machine, it's because of different vendors
of LCD's. I believe an old LCD I had on here was an LG. I'm not sure what the new
one is, because I broke-fixed my machine, with another I'd recieved as a parts
unit (upgraded to a 400MHz CPU, replaced the keyboard and assembly, PCMCIA assembly,
and display assembly). Make sure of course, that you get the 600's hardware maintainence manual.
I'd also advise that you print out the sections showing the names of each of the screws
(there's different sizes, and they have a 2 letter naming convention, so as to make
it easier to remember which screw goes where), even if you have another computer
to view the PDF file on. It saved a lot of time for me.
Also, do you still have a warranty on your machine? I was extra careful with my machine,
because although my warranty ends in 2004, I wasn't able to send it in to Easyserve, because
I use this in college every day.
Hope this helps,
Paul
