W2k is an excellent OS as far as any MS OS goes..
and most machines on the road in a larger environment need to be stable..
they do one or a set of jobs..
they don't need the flash of WXP..
and the additional memory and time to upgrade is not called for..

if i were doing this i would either get a preload CD and if it is sufficient
make a bunch of copies and start running the recovery on at least 10 or 15
thinkpads at a time..
it would all be done by the end of one day.. well, ok, a LONG day and maybe
a bit more..
but it would be done..

if the corporate preload requires some apps and tweaking, i would do that on
one machine, make a bunch of copies and then proceed..

doing a disk to disk clone of the finished OS would take way too much time
and fiddling with thinkpads and 2nd HDD adapters and HDD's and so forth when
they ALL have CD's..

all this is just my morning rant.. :-)
