Well, I assume you could also do this without a floppy in the usual way, by using a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter (etc). I suspect that formatting through the pcmcia adapter is somehow not the same as doing it as a hard-wired IDE drive. Also, the DOS boot record that W95 lays down is possiby not going to be compatible with earlier DOS system files. You should ideally do all the formatting and SYSing using the exact OS version you want on the machine.

I always had better luck with DOS 6.0 than with DOS 5.0 on nonstandard equipment; I haven't used DR-DOS since around version 2, don't know how 5.0 works.
