You can use CAS 2 rated memory (CL2) memory in an application that requires
CAS 3 memory, but not the other way around. These are the latency ratings of
the physical chips on your SODIMM. In other words, it's okay to run a faster
chip at a slower speed, but not a slower chip at a faster speed. That's the
"significant difference."
If you can, use CAS 3 because in most cases it will be easier on your
wallet.
