start-up problems with my 760CD

I'm having a serious start up problem with my 760CD. When I turn it on I
nothing much happens. I get a power reading on the small LCD screen as well
as a flashing speaker symbol. That's it. No noises at all! This sucks.
I've tried it with a full battery, expended battery, no battery but plugged
in all with no improvement. I've tried holding down the F1 key when I turn
it on and it makes no difference. I get bad beeps when I hit function keys
with it on like this. I really don't know a lot about computers and am
looking for some guidance/experience. I just bought this thing used and got
to use it about 3 times before this happened. I did a search of the
archives first and found 1 similar post with no replies. If you have any
ideas please email me.
