I'm not even getting the beep at start-up saying that the motherboard is
happy and booting. I think that's what is referred to as the POST. I am
not hearing the POST.
Here's a personal reply I got that seems to be on target:
"When you turn on the laptop the first thing that comes on is the battery
percentage and the flashing speaker with a blank screen. Once the flashing
speaker stops the memory count starts on the top left hand and a beep. If
you don't see the memory count and hear no fan/power there would be no way
to get to the a: drive or hard disk. I would say it is power or
motherboard."
Now there was a couple threads on this exact issue in the archives and one
ended with a possible solution of replacing the CMOS battery. When I
checked up on this it seems it worked but only for a day and then the person
gave up on the laptop.
There was also the mention thread sequence on the monitor not working but
this thing isn't even loading that far. The speaker still flashing
indicates it has not completed the memory count for some reason.
I did also get another reply suggesting he had the same problem but
intermittently that was solved by removing the CD or some of the memory.
Well I've tried it with the CD in and out (floppy in). I don't know laptops
well (or computers for that matter) so changing the memory is beyond me
without specific instructions. I did get to the CMOS battery last night and
may try replacing it with a jury rigged Radio Crap replacement.
(Sigh)... I bought this thing used and only got to use it about 3 times.
It's been down ever since (about 2 months). I guess my best bet is to try
and find someone with the same laptop around here and start swapping parts.
I'm just to inexperience to do this effectively I think.
One more thing. What is the board that is about 3"x3" square and plugs in
on the bottom side of the laptop? It did come out at one point and I put it
back in... I don't think anything was damaged. It happened about the same
time but not exactly. I used the laptop at about 1:00 one day then powered
it down and placed it back in my car. I tried to use it again at 1:30 and
that's when this all started. Nothing weird happened during that period of
time.
(ps - Thanks for the hint about HTML here on this list)

It's possible that the LCD connector has come adrift, or you've
inadvertently switched the video output mode to the external connector.
Try connecting an external monitor to the jack on the rear and see if you
get anything that may indicate what it's waiting on. Did you set a
power-on password?
Good luck,
