Hi - Quick intro - middle aged EE old enough to be able to claim to have
done a lot of programming on a PDP-8/L and PDP-11/03 back when Unix was
ver 5 and the Arpanet was cool.
I just recently acquired two IBM Thinkpads (a 750c and a 755c) that I am
trying to fix up and eventually load Linux onto. The 750c is stock (8MB
RAM, 340 MB drive), and the 755c has 20 MB RAM and a fairly new Toshiba
2.1 GB drive.
Both are basically working, but I have two questions;
Q - I have been using a D-Link DE620 parallel port ethernet adapter to
load Linux onto the machines via an NFS server on a large desktop Linux
system. I'm running Linux-Mandrake 7.1 on the server, loading an NFS
image of Linux-Mandrake 6.0 to the Thinkpads. This works well on the
750c, but I can't get it to go on the 755c. Network communication quits
shortly after transferring a small amount of data (50K to 60K bytes) on
the 755c. The parallel port on the 755c passes its internal diagnostics,
and the link works for a while using NFS and also ftp, but dies
eventually. Anyone had experience with this and managed to fix it?
Q - The same dealer where I got the two machines also has a docking
station that I might get if it will work with either laptop. I do not
know what model the docking station is, but it has the number 3547-001
on the front, a large locking key on the right side, and a housing for
an ISA or PCI card in the rear.
Anyone know what model this dock is, and if it will work with the 750c
or 755c?
Thanks in advance for any help, and my apologies if this has been asked
and answered in the past!
Regards,
